Bennett: We must find ways to break teams down
Wolverhampton Wanderers must work hard to ensure they are able to break down teams who set up to defend in the future according to Ryan Bennett.
As reported by the Express and Star, the defender played the whole 90 minutes of Saturday’s frustrating 0-0 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.
Despite Wolves’ impressive league standing in their first season since returning to the Premier League, they have generally struggled against the division’s lower ranked teams.
In fact, they have managed just three league wins in 11 attempts against the league’s current bottom six this term, proving that there is work to be done in the less glamorous ties.
Last weekend’s result was no different, with Wolves failing to find the back of the net despite having 23 attempts and hitting the woodwork twice.
The result means Nuno Espirito Santo’s men sit 10th in the table with four matches to play, although they are just a point behind 7th-placed Everton.
On Saturday’s draw, Bennett, who himself has scored once in 30 top-flight outings this term, said:
Teams are going to come and do that, we’ve found that a few times this season. Normally, at this level, when teams do that it is hard to break down. We did dominate the ball and, unfortunately, we couldn’t find a way. It’s something that we’ll go and work on and try and create different ideas to break teams down who come at us like that, we’ve found it a couple of times this season. We have found it difficult so we’ll keep working as hard as we can and we’ve got another big game on Wednesday.
Wolves host Arsenal on Wednesday night before a trip to Watford on Saturday.
