Shearer: Jimenez was ‘magnificent’ in Chelsea draw
Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer said he was impressed with Raul Jimenez’s performance in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ stalemate with Chelsea yesterday.
As reported by HITC, Jimenez scored Wolves’ goal in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, his 12th Premier League strike at the season.
The 27-year-old has adapted to English football extremely well since joining on a season-long loan from Benfica last summer, establishing himself as Wolves’ leading frontman.
His success has tallied with that of the Molineux club, who sit 7th in the table with eight matches to play.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men also have an FA Cup quarter-final with Manchester United this weekend, meaning they have two chances of qualifying for the Europa League next season.
Shearer himself is no stranger to finding the back of the net, being the top of the Premier League’s goalscoring charts with 260 goals throughout his career.
The 48-year-old commented on the Mexican’s supporting role in bringing his team-mates into play as well as his shooting skills.
He said:
Jimenez was magnificent for Wolves up front. He held the ball up, great centre forward play. When you play like that you need a guy up front who can hold the ball up well. I thought Wolves were very, very good today.
It remains to be seen whether Wolves can sign him on a permanent deal in the coming months, but he has certainly become a favourite with the Molineux faithful.
