Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a loan move for Atletico Madrid winger Gelson Martins.
That’s according to Spanish outlet AS, who write that Wolves will face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal for his services.
The 23-year-old was one of several players to cancel their contracts at Sporting Lisbon last summer after their training ground was invaded by supporters and several members of staff were assaulted.
He subsequently signed a five-year deal with Atletico, which angered the Portuguese outfit.
However, his stay in Spain has not got off to the best of starts, as he has played just 446 minutes in 12 appearances to date.
The 21 cap Portugal international looks set to be offloaded in order to part fund the move for Alvaro Morata, who has moved to the Spanish capital from Chelsea on an 18-month deal.
Martins is a client of ‘super agent’ Jorge Mendes, who holds an advisory role at Wolves and will play a key role in the winger’s future.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has often deployed Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaliero out wide this term, and also has Adama Traore and Diogo Jota at his disposal.
