Jota: Risk to join Wolves has paid off
Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Diogo Jota believes his decision to join the club from Porto has been fully justified after his run of impressive performances.
The Express and Star write that many doubted the move of Jota and Portuguese compatriot Ruben Neves to drop down to the Championship last season.
Jota initially moved to Molineux on loan last summer, but the deal became permanent in January of this year.
The 21-year-old was influential in the club’s promotion to the Premier League, scoring 15 times for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
Despite not finding the back of the net yet this campaign, the player’s performances have been enough to see him selected for all eight of the club’s top-flight matches.
On his and Neves’ move to England, he said:
In Portugal many people didn’t understand our move. Not just me but Neves as well, but we are here now and the people that said things now understand. Of course it was a risk because it wasn’t a shortcut to reach the Premier League, but in the end it was a good move.
My family were always supporting me and they understand my position. They were always supportive and that is what I care about. Being in a different city, especially with the weather, it was a big difference between here and Porto, where I used to live. But in the end, we have many Portuguese here and we are always together when we can be, and that helps us to be a family.
Next up for Jota and Wolves is a home clash with Watford, and a win could see them climb to sixth in the Premier League table.
