Neves: We will never be afraid to play football
Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves says he and his teammates have the courage to reproduce their performance against Manchester United every week.
The Metro report that Neves and the squad earnt significant praise from United manager Jose Mourinho after gaining a point at Old Trafford on Saturday.
United’s summer recruit Fred put the Red Devils in front just 18 minutes in but Nuno Espirito Santo’s men showed great character to regain a foothold in the match.
Neves’ midfield partner Joao Moutinho scored his first goal for the club to level the scores eight minutes after the restart and the players looked comfortable for the rest of the match.
On his team’s performance, Neves said:
We want to do this [play like Mourinho said Wolves did] every game. We want to play every game like it the last game of our lives. It’s our job. You can’t think about what you’re going to do in the future until you’ve done things in the present.
We can’t think about the opponent all the time. If we do things right it’s easier for us. We’re never going to be afraid to play our football. They are not superheroes. They are players and if we do things well we can make it difficult for other teams.
Neves has impressed in his debut Premier League season, starting every game in the centre of midfield and exhibiting his exceptional passing ability.
Mourinho and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City are both keeping track on the 21-year-old’s progress, although it would have to be an extraordinary offer for Wolves to consider a sale.
